The fifth triennial report of the SAAPE, South Asia and the Future of Pro-People Development: the Centrality of Social Justice and Equality, is launched in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 23 May 2017. The event was jointly organized by Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS), Institute for Environment and Development (IED) & South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE).

Rokeya Kabir, Executive Director of BNPS and Core Committee (CC) Member of SAAPE chaired the programme and released the report. She elaborated on the inception of SAAPE and the process of furnishing the Poverty Report. Mahfuz Kabir, Country Author of the report presented the highlights from the Bangladesh country report. Professor MM Akash, eminent economist of Bangladesh and Tanzimuddin Khan, Associate Professor at University of Dhaka gave their impression on the poverty report as panel discussants. In his brief deliberation; A.K.M. Mustaque Ali, Executive Director and CC member of SAAPE focused on the content and intent of the poverty report and emphasised on the major takes for the civil society from the poverty report. Among other discussants, Pratima Pal, social researcher; MA Matin, environmental activist and Shantanu Majumder Associate Professor, Department of Political Science of University of Dhaka presented their feedback on the Poverty Report and suggested recommendations for further improvement of the next report. Executive Director of IED Numan Ahmed Khan and Rashid-E-Mahbub, health activist were also present in the programme.

The launching ceremony was attended by members of civil society organisations, leaders of different social and political movements, trade unionists, women activists, leaders of peasant movements and student leaders. Journalists from print and electronic media covered the major highlights of the occasion.
