SAAPE’S ENGAGEMENT IN THE GLOBAL CIVIL SOCIETY MOBILISATION DURING THE IMF–WORLD BANK ANNUAL MEETINGS
As part of the Feminist Festival held alongside the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, SAAPE contributed to the lead sharing circle “Who Writes the Rules? Tax Justice, Debt, Corporate Power and Global Governance: A Feminist Macroeconomic Perspective” on 12 October 2026.
Representing SAAPE, Reshma Shakya shared perspectives from Nepal and South Asia on how regressive taxation, debt burdens and austerity can deepen inequality and disproportionately affect women. The discussion highlighted the need for progressive and gender-responsive taxation, debt justice, corporate accountability and democratic economic governance, while emphasizing solidarity among feminist, tax justice and social movements to build more equitable and sustainable economies.
The discussion reaffirmed the importance of advancing progressive and gender-responsive taxation, equitable debt solutions, stronger corporate accountability and democratic global economic governance. It also highlighted the need to build greater collective power among movements to challenge economic policies that reproduce inequality and to promote alternatives that place people’s rights, care, social wellbeing and ecological sustainability at the centre of economic decision-making.
