SAAPE’S ENGAGEMENT IN THE GLOBAL CIVIL SOCIETY MOBILISATION DURING THE IMF–WORLD BANK ANNUAL MEETINGS
The APMDD and the TAFJA Working Group on Wealth Tax organised the regional workshop “Wealth Tax for Economic Justice in Asia” on 14 October 2026 in Bangkok, taking the opportunity of the gathering of TAFJA Asia regional members and partners, as well as regional and global networks, during the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings.
Further advancing SAAPE’s tax justice agenda, Reshma participated in the regional workshop “Wealth Tax for Economic Justice in Asia.” She shared Nepal’s experience and emphasized the importance of progressive taxation, wealth taxes, stronger corporate taxation and measures to address tax avoidance and evasion as tools for reducing inequality and strengthening domestic resources for public services and climate action.

The workshop examined the broader tax–debt–climate nexus, including the role and influence of international financial institutions in shaping domestic fiscal and tax policies. The update on the Asian Peoples’ Petition for Wealth Tax for Public Services and Climate Action and the ongoing negotiations for the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation was provided. Participants discussed strategies to strengthen links between local, national, regional and global tax justice advocacy and to build stronger collaboration among civil society organisations, social movements, researchers and tax justice networks.
